Headless VGA driver - Setting display resolution

S

Susanne

Hi,

can anyone give me a hint how to solve the following problem:
We use netmeeting to see what is going on on our headless system. The
resolution of the desktop window that netmeeting shows is 640 x 480.
That is too small and I need to change it to 1024 x 768.
In Target Designer I cannot set the resolution for the "headless vga
driver" component. I do have the component "Device: display", but
setting the resolution there is not successful. On the system I cannot
change the resolution using the control panel - it shows a resolution
of 9999x9999 without the possibility to change it.
I tried to use another vga driver instead - but Windows XP embeddd
tells me that it will not use it because the device is not present.
That is true as our headless system does not have a graphics adapter.

I do not have a problem with our test system that is equipped with a
graphics adapter.

Thanks,
Susanne Stoehr

hello Sussanne,

is it possible for you to use the normal rdp function instead of
netmeeting? (i can't test it)

Hi mich1985,

I use netmeeting and I use TCP/IP to establish the connection. I do not
think that it has got something to do with the configuration of
netmeeting. As a test I started with a system with a VGA card: First I
disabled the VGA driver (Chips and Technologies (Asiliant)). The
resolution of the remote desktop changed to 640x480. But the driver
vga.sys was still running and I could change to a better resolution
using the control panel. Then I disabled the driver vga.sys and again I
had a resolution of the remote desktop of 640x480 - without a chance to
change it using the control panel. That is exactly the situation of our
headless system without a VGA card.
In the internet I found a reference that the headless vga driver of NT
embedded only supports a resolution of 640x480. But we do not have any
problems with our NT embedded. Therefore I think that it should be
possible to get a better resolution with XP embedded also.
