Headers and Footers

I am always using excel to create reports and spreadsheets. But one thing
that takes a long time to do are creating the headers and footers.

Since they never change, is there a way I can open up a new excel sheet and
already have the headers and footers there.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

In a post from Gord Dibben:

Custom headers and footers are saved with that workbook only.

Couple of ways to go about this.

1. A macro to set the headers/footers as you wish.

2. If you want a default solution for all NEW workbooks............

Open a new workbook. Customize as you wish.
Note: you can set all sheet headers/footers at the same time by "grouping" the
sheets.
Right-click on a sheet tab and "select all sheets". Set up a footer on the
active sheet and will be done to all. Ungroup when setup is complete.

File>Save As Type: scroll down to Excel Template(*.XLT) and select. Name
your
workbook "BOOK"(no quotes). Excel will add the .XLT to save as BOOK.XLT.

Store this workbook in the XLSTART folder usually located at........

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

This will be the default workbook for File>New or the Toolbar button File>New

Do not use File>New...Blank Workbook or you will get the Excel default
workbook.

Existing workbooks are not affected by these settings and would require a
macro.

You can also open a new workbook and delete all but one sheet. Customize as
you wish then save this as SHEET.XLT in XLSTART folder also. It now becomes
the default Insert>Sheet.

More can be found on this in Help under "templates"(no quotes).

Thank you, that helps me out a great deal. One last question though, when I
export data from one program to Excel, the headings and footers are not
there. Is that because when I export the data, its opening a blank workbook?

Yes. It is exporting to the default Excel Workbook.

I tested this with an export of my Outlook Contacts to a new Excel workbook.

The default Excel Workbook format was used. Not my BOOK.XLT Template.

I don't know how to get around this but will continue to test.
