HDPARM and Barracuda 7200.7 160gb sata

I finally managed to get linux installed on the sata drive. Red hat 9 is
awsum, I'm seriously tempted to ditch windows xp. I used hdparm and it
seemed to set the amm on the drive, I think it might be quiter although I am
not convinced, its still defently louder than the cuda 4's seeks. Hdparm
reports the amm on all 3 drives as 0 though after a reboot so I am not sure
if it is working correctly. I forgot to check the version of hdparm that was
being used though. I am goign to try a defrag to see if any effect has been
made to the noise.

Thanks for the help in the previous thread

The effect is very obvious with the Barra 4s.

That wouldnt be surprising given the no rubber thing on the SATA

Thanks, that defently makes sense.

Thanks again for teh reply. I am doing some more testing, looks hopeful, as
for the rubber thing I can see why they might of removed it to help with
heat. The cuada 4's report aprox 31 degrees temp and the 7200.7 39 degrees,
with almost identicle case mounting and simular activity. This is in a well
ventilated postiion, the barracuda 4's got up to 51 degrees in my old case
with simular load and ambient temps.
