Hi

My mates PC has died ("CPU he thinks") and he'd like to put his maxtor HDD
with XP O/S on it, into another PC so he can retrieve his data.
Is this possible?...If not how can he go about retrieving his data from his
original HDD without the intervention of a recovery specialist?

TIA

Connect it to another sys as slave, or put it in an external enclosure
You may have to take ownership of folders, to recover data

Went a little freaky with the multi-posting, eh?

Options:

- Install the drive into the other machine as a secondary - access the data
you want.

- Install the drive in another machine as a primary, do not boot but instead
perform a REPAIR INSTALLATION of XP (google for it) and then boot and use as
normal. NOTE: If the XP was an OEM - you are breaking an agreement agreed
to with the use of the system on the original computer.

"Thanks" I'll forward the info to him, he's using my laptop at the moment to
get online.
