Hd raw and problem when installing Xp

Can you help me please??
I have bought a new HD (SATA II MAXTOR) and I wished to instal a fresh
installation of Xp Professional, but after makng a boot form the Cd
windows installer write that there is a raw partition and can not
install itself.
How can I resolve this problem?
