I have a Toshiba M35X Satellite and just need to know how do you find the
hard drive manufacturer information. Sys Properties device manager gives me an
IC25N06ATMR04-4 as the disk drive. Is this Seagate ? How do I find out
because it's starting to go out on me.

You found just about all your are going to find- but when you see model
numbers are other info search Google- or you may extract more info form WMI
by using a third party software such as Belarc Advisor- search for that, it's
free.

The manufacturer doesn't matter if you're looking for a replacement. There
is *no* need to get an identical disk.

What does matter is getting the same type of disk interface, i.e. SATA or
IDE.

If you google the model number IC25N06ATMR04, you'll find that it is a
Hitachi Travelstar, a 4200rpm IDE drive.

Get a faster drive, at least 5400 rpm.

Pull the drive out and look.

An inventory tool like Belarc Advisor might show the manufacturer.

It might also show in msinfo. From start | run | msinfo32.exe

You're welcome. There's a cuouple of other things to just watch out for
when you replace the drive - and you might or might not want to pay somebody
to do the physical swap.

The first is that there are up to ten tiny screws holding the drive in, and
the drive into the carrier. They are small, and like to wander off. Use
a clean space, plenty of light, and proper-sized tools.

The second will be visible when you take the old hard disk out and compare
it to the new one. Some manufacturers use a plastic header pushed onto the
pins. This you need to pull off with needle nose pliers and move to the new
drive. It's no big deal, but can be confusing the first time you see it.
Not all manufacturers do this, though.

Finally, be sure you get the correct type of disk. And, pay a little more
for a faster one. You will notice it.
