HD continues to run after shutdown

After system shutdown there is clicking and flashing of lights on the
hard drive sometimes for a minute or so and sometimes more persistently).
When I disconnect the power source the problems stops.

The clicking corresponds to the green lights "on the tower" to the left and
right of the ON/OFF button and at the light on the bottom left of the CD
drive.
I am trying to determine whether it is a hardware or software problem.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Thank you in adavance.

You asked this question yesterday Darkside, in the hardware news group. I
suggest you wait at least 2 days before reposting as it may take that long
for someone who knows to answer. And posting with a different name does not
prevent us from knowing it is still you.

Richard,

You're right I did post yesterday! I checked the post this morning & somehow
it has vanished. I thought the post may have been pulled for being posted in
the wrong area.
As for the name change...."Darkside" is part of my e-mail address. I thought
it would be more appropriate to use my name or initials this time instead of
a nickname. Was not meant to be deceitful. Sorry you were offended!!!!!

BTW...This is my first post on the discussion board. Thank you for you're
warm welcome & thoughtful insight.

Didn't think you were being deceitful. I thought you were maybe a bit
impatient is all. Sometimes it takes a day or two for someone who knows the
answer to stumble upon the post. If you get no answer in that time, repost
with as much information as you can.
