HD Clone : Boot Disk + Different Size + Different Drive Letter

Is it possible to Clone my small (20GB) boot HD (F:) onto a
bigger (100GB) one while have it become the new boot
disk on a different drive letter (C:). The system is XP.

Will Norton Ghost be able to do it...? And are there
freeware alternatives?

Thanks a million,
Ben

Yes, most of the cloning programs can do that.
Will Norton Ghost be able to do it...?

Yes. The main thing with Ghost and Drive Image is to
do it in the right sequence with XP. Its safest to do it
manually using the rescue floppy or after booting the
Ghost CD. Do the clone AND THEN TURN THE
SYSTEM OFF ONCE THE CLONE HAS BEEN MADE
AND PHYSICALLY DISCONNECT THE ORIGINAL
DRIVE for the first boot of XP after the clone has been
done. Once that boot has been done, XP will normally
ask for another boot after that due to the new hardware,
you can then put the original drive back and use it for
data or whatever. But its crucial that XP cant see both
the original and the clone on the first boot, otherwise
it will get very confused.
And are there freeware alternatives?

Yes, at least www.xxclone.com

Havent tried that yet myself, its quite new.

By the time you've gotten the drive letter changed in all the places
that you have to change it for this to work, you'll wish that you had
just reinstalled.
