HD cleanup query

Hi all
Upon attempting HD cleanup, I have noticed that from time to time, the
amount of saved space DECREASES intead of INCREASING while the computer shows
me the amount of space I will be saving. Can someone enlighten me. Thanks.

what your methodology
is for HD cleanup.

however, running a chkdsk
should provide some enlightenment.

also helpful is running
cleanmgr

Have you tried CCleaner to do HD cleanup? What are you doing exactly?

"Decreases?" Are you saying that the space to be freed up is a negative
number?

I had, less free space after the hd cleanup than before the cleanup. No big
problem, just curious.

What are you using to clean up your hard drive?

Are you using any Norton products? Are you using any backup or imaging
programmes?

That sounds suspiciously like Norton GoBack is involved.

Thanks to all for your helpful responses,
Am not using any of the products you mentioned. Originally used Mcafee Av
but upon subscription expiration replaced it with Avast freeware almost one
year ago with no problems sofar.
