Having trouble access computer on a LAN from my wireless network

Okay. I am just going ot make this as easy as possible so that it's not to
confusing. I have two computers both Windows XP home SP2. They are both
updated with everything.
For my network I am using a D-link router/wireless. I have my one computer
(Home-One) which is connected to the router by a CAT5 cable. I have my Laptop
(James_Laptop) Connecting through the wireless connection. Now From Home-One
I can access the laptop share files and everything. It's in my workgroup
called MShome. But from my laptop when I view the workgroup. I see Home-one
but I cannot access. Instead it tells me I do not have permission to view
this computer and must get access from the network admin. I need this to
transfer files between my computer and get them of my wired computer when I
am working. If you need any more info just ask and I will get it for you. I
hope you guys can help me.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

James,

OK, this may be fun.

# Both computers are on the same subnet, and have the same DHCP and DNS server.
# Both have compatible name resolution (Node Type Unknown, with no WINS server).
# Both computers are in the same workgroup ("Status for domain MSHOME"), and
both can see each others server datagrams ("There are 2 servers").
# HOME-ONE sees 2 workgroups though ("There are 2 domains"). Have both
computers always been members of MSHOME?
# James_Laptop has several problems with HOME-ONE - a "5" ("access denied"), a
"53" ("name not found"), and a "64" ("name no longer available").

Now James_Laptop uses WiFi for its networking, so it's possible that it became
disconnected from the LAN inadvertently. That's a problem with WiFi - was
James_Laptop connected to the router, and online, when "browstat status" was
run? Was it disconnected from the LAN at any time in the past, maybe carried
away from the router?

Now to the issue of Norton. Please spend some time Googling for "Norton
Personal Firewall" and "NPF", in this group. NPF is known here for not reacting
properly to being disabled. You have to either enable and properly configure
it, or enable and un install it. There is no third option.

There are several other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your
problem. Read this article with an open mind.
