Having problem with simple division in excel

I am trying to divide two siple numbers
eg. =4/2 and getting error in excel sheet "the formula you typed contains errors" while + - and * is working fine

The only way to replicate your error is to type in
=4\2

To avoid the error type in

=4/

i am doing the same =4/
and also check autocorrect there is nothing
I did uninstall and reinstall excel same proble

Maybe you used the backslash ( \ ) instead of the forward slash ( /

try checking a windows setting.

Windows start button|settings|control panel|windows regional settings
Number tab

Look at list separator. What do you show there?

If it's a slash, change it to a comma (USA) or semicolon (rest of world??).
