I am using Norton Firewall 2003 and when windows xp pro loads it comes up
with a red shield that says Problem with your firewall.

My norton x's out and i cannot run it

I went into Windows Security Center and made sure it is checked "I have a
firewall solution that I''ll monitor myself"

I also unchecked use windows firewall on the main secoion but everytime I
restart the computer it keeps rechecking it and then my firewall stops
working

How do I fix this?

i had installed the patch for the antivirus last week- I am assuming it is
also for the the internet security?
only it is not working for norton firewall 2003

I am manually going into security center to reuncheck everything- then the x
comes off the program
why?

yes i ran live update like 6 times- again i did get this update

The Norton WMI update will affect Norton AntiVirus, Norton SystemWorks,
Norton Personal Firewall, and Norton Internet Security.

but it is still doing it
I also checked that site
and it cannot find the problem :(

Have you run Symantec LiveUpdate recently? Even if you have, run it again
to see if there any updates for your Symantec products.

Also, check the Symantec Support to see if your problem has been
addressed.

Maybe a bug in the patch (SP2). It's very possible.

Your version of NF (2003) is a little long in the tooth,
they are now up NF 2005. I hesitate to suggest this, but
maybe it's time to upgrade.

You could always call Symatec, but that would cost you.
Keep checking the MS Knowledgebase, search Google, or
maybe someone here in the NG will know of a fix.

i called norton and they are cluless- seems from further research on
symantec's site i am seeing that this only effects norton firewall 2003 not
2004- go figure

They also told me to make sure i had all the processors running (except
Password) to automatic- the network one was set to manual so i put it to
automatic and for some crazy reason it is now loading fine but now i am
still seeing the firewall red shield telling me i am not protected.

I guess i will live with the problem till my software definitions expire and
go to 2005 since it comes out in oct unless someone comes up with a fix.

Hi,
I have the exactly same problem; however, I'm using ZoneAlarm Pro firewall
instead of Norton.

Is this a bug related to SP2 itself?

Thanks

That is a Nortons problem, NOT an XP problem. Contact the author of your
app for a fix.

well i believe you are wrong
take a look at the other posts here that ppl are saying the same thing

the xp firewall when unchecked is rechecking itself on startup

there are lots of posts with the same problem i am having and not just with
norton but with ZA too
