Have an HP Deskjet 5490 - do not want to install the 51mb software on
other PC's

Am sharing a printer with a few PC's. I rather not load the entire 51mb
file on a laptop. Loaded it on the desktop-took forever, had a few
faults but finally got it.

Wonder if there is a way to just load some basic printer drivers for
this printer that will print fine without all the overhead?

Did not see anything on HP's site.

Did you mean the Deskjet 5940? I believe the Deskjet 5740 driver is
compatible. You can download the basic version for XP at:

Yes-sorry, the 5940.

I figured it out. I just insert the CD and do an Add printer and let it
pick the drivers off the CD without installing the entire software.
