Hav ing problem with passwords not letting xp install.

I have a person 1000 miles from me that purchased a
computer from a company that has windows 2000 on it and
the password that he has for the one user does not allow
administrator Privileges so he cannot install xp. I tried
having him go into the bios so it would boot from the cd
drive and that has a password also which he does not know.
I had him remove the battery to see if that would reset
the bios password and it did not. How do I get windows
2000 not letting us install xp without a admin passord.
I am sure if I was there I could figure out which pins
would reset the bios but I am not there.

Hi,

You need to know what kind of motherboard it has, then you can research the
proper way to reset the BIOS defaults and clear the password.

Logically, your friend would contact the company that sold him/her the
computer and get the passwords.

That is what he is doing but I was just trying to get it
up and running last night.
He had xp to place on it so I thought I would if I could
get it running and then when he got the password for the
bios we would check things there.
