Has anyone seen this behavior??

I am in an environment that must use the hosts file. A new XP Pro SP2
machine ignores new entries in the hosts file. In other words, if I add an
entry in the hosts file such as 192.168.1.10 newhost, the system does not
resolve the name. All other names in the hosts file are resolved. (Yes, I
did save the file after the changes were made)

Any feedback is appreciated.

Can you ping that IP normally? If so, you might try running >ipconfig
/flushdns in a command prompt.
