Hardware raid question ..........

Here's an odd ball one.

The raid controller is a VT8237 raid controller. The hardware is setup so
that disk 1 mirrors disk 0 (raid 1 if I remember correctly).

Now, in XP (64) the OS saw just one drive on the controller. So why does
Vista see both drives? How is that possible?

Add to that, I would love to get it to mirror again so that I could just see
one drive.

Thanks.

Michael:
The reason that Vista sees 2 hard drives is that the raid
controllers haven't been installed.

You don't say which version of Vista you're using, but it sounds like
you don't have the RAID drivers installed. Until Vista RC2, my nForce4
RAID was not supported without using modified XP drivers. Once RC2
came along, Vista supported the chipset.

I don't know if your VIA chipset is supported in Vista, but I found
this page (Google is your friend) for drivers if you need them:

Thanks for the link. That driver I found out was for Vista 32 bit. I'm
running RTM Vista 64 bit.

The VIA chipset is supported in Vista and Vista sees a 'Via Raid 1 hard
drive' just like the raid I have on the promise raid controller. Just not
sure why Vista is showing me the other drive in the Via array on it's own.

UPDATE: As of this morning (see post date and time) the drive in question,
the extra drive, had died. So I'll have to see when I get a replacement put
on and see what happens.

Thanks.
