hardware jumpers

i have a athlon xp 1800 the processor is running at 1147 and the fsb is running at 20
it should be running at 1533 and 266 but i cant change the settings in the bios and i dont have the manual for the motherboard i know the clock multi should be 11.
but i don't know what a hardware jumper looks like, is it easy enough to fix or should
take it to a shop and get ripped off?

Who ever makes your mother you should be able to find
documentation on that companies websute that made your
brd. ok

Get either or both...AIDA32 or BelArc Advisor, they will
scan your system and report the make ands model (and serial
number) of your motherboard. Then go to the mfg'r web site
and download the correct mobo manual.

What make and model computer do you have (Compaq/HP, etc.)
Often these companies block access to changing settings. I
have an older HP that they actually cut the header pins off
flush so you can't change the settings.

Go to the motherboard maker's web site to get a copy of the manual. Since
you managed to post here then you do have Internet access and get the manual
from their web site. You didn't mention which make and model you have for
the motherboard so I can't even provide you with a link to get the manual.

There will be 2 or more adjacent pins sticking up in a group on the
motherboard arranged in rows. They are also called headers. A jumper is a
little plastic shell that has a metal sleeve inside so when you slide it
over a couple pins on a header then those pins are shorted together.

If you want specific help on your motherboard, you'll need to specify WHAT
motherboard you have. First see if you can get the manual from the maker's
web site. If you can't figure out how to the fix the problem after reading
the manual then come back and see if we can help - provided you give enough
info about your hardware so we can offer you help.

Most motherboard manufacturers have web sites. And on those web sites are
links to download the manuals for the motherboards.

Most newer mother boards don't use jumpers. Everything is set up in the
BIOS. If you can enter your BIOS look for the features that allow you to set
the FSB. Yours is set to 100 now, it should be 133.
