I'm running XP Pro. My HP Deskjet 990cxi printer is
connected via parallel port. Every time I startup,
XP "finds" new hardware and tries to install it,
unsuccessfully. I have gotten the latest XP drivers for
the printer and can make the printer work by adding a
local port and calling it LPT1. However, the REAL LPT1 is
nowhere to be found. (The device manager shows the real
LPT1 is working properly)
Even if I "trick" XP by adding a local port and calling
it LPT1, which will allow me to use my printer, I still
get the hardware wizard running every time I startup.
Have tried uninstalling the printer and the port several
times, can't seem to make it go away...any ideas?
