hardware and software inventory in xp pro???? is there a way

is there any way by which i can gather the hardware and software installed on
my xp machine to be extracted neatly in a documented manner. there are many
third party s/w available but just was curious if windows had this feature in
itself.

also, is there any possibility to collect the information from other
computer in LAN at home. this would make things a little bit at record.


if there isnt, then can you pls let me know this kind of software.
