Hard Drive

Hey, I have an 80g hard drive that i've had for a while
that has information on it that I need. I attached the
drive to my new computer where it shows up in hardware
manager and disc management but not my computer. When I
go to assign a drive letter, the only selectable option
is delete partition and help. How can I make this drive
appear while keeping the information on it. All my hard
drives are Western Digital which comes with Data
Lifeguard Tools but when I called Western Digital, they
told me not to use it. I've looked in BIOS but it says
the right size for the drive. The file system is FAT32
and the status is "Healthy (Active)".Thanks for your help.

You will need to set the pins on the back of each harddrive to get it to
show up. The first drive must be set to either Master or Cable Select
and the second must be set to either Slave or Cable Select. To do this,
there are little jumpers on the back of the harddrive. Once you have
done that, go into your BIOS and make sure everything is set up right.
Now reboot and see if that fixed the problem :)

DO NOT use cable select. The drive at the end of the cable's jumper is set
to Master and the drive on the middle connector is set to slave.

He can see the drive in his bios and in disc management so incorrect
jumpering would not cause his symptoms.

There is no reason not to use Cable Select as it automatically selects
which to act as. I build systems all the time and they work just fine
with the harddrive in Cable Select. Though I do prefer to set them to
Master/Slave.

I do have one question though. Is one drive SATA or are they both ATA?
And just because Windows can see the harddrive does not mean that the
jumpers are set correctly. Windows gets its information from the BIOS,
but the BIOS should have conflicts if they are both set to Master.
