i want to add an 80 Ghz hard drive to my tower and go up to a gig of memory
also. is there any specific brand name for this pc? dell dimension 2400.

Please learn the correct terminology - 'gigahertz' is a measure of
frequency - i.e. one billion hertz. You mean 'giga/byte/' which is a measure
of capacity - i.e. one billion bytes (yes, I know, before anyone writes in!

You need to select the correct memory for your computer. Try here for help:

Crucial has good prices. You may find your memory at lower cost elsewhere.
However, Crucial has reputation for quality.
Generally, Dell will be more expensive.
