Hard drive size misreported

Microsoft NNTP

My harddrive is 20GB
I have a folder, that used to be within the recylcle bin, called NPROTECT (a
Norton Systemworks file)
that's reporting a size of 24GB.
It has 2 files within it, both 0 Bytes.
I can't delete either, it says it can't read the disk.

any ideas?

Try deleting the files from the Safe Mode. Help with Norton products
is available from www.symantec.com.

Norton file is probably compressed and the 24 GB is the
expanded size. 20 GB is pretty small by today's standards,
a new hard drive will be faster too.

It has been awhile since I have used either Norton Utilities or System
Works. So, the following will not be very specific.

The NPROTECT folder is the Norton Protect folder. As I recall the folder
size is set by Norton. The purpose of Norton Protect is to protect people
who delete a file, empty the recycle bin and then decide that they realty
need the file. Norton Protect provides a second recycle bin where you can
recover the file until you empty the Norton Protect folder.

What I suggest is that you right click on your recycle bin and select the
option to empty Norton Protect. Then I would select the recycle bin
properties and disable Norton Protect on all your partitions. The Norton
Protect folder will then go away. If you are one of those who frequently
deletes a file, empties the recycle bin and the then decides you need the
file, perhaps you should keep Norton Protect.

Nothing worked, so I backed up and wiped the system...

Thanks for the help, though!
