Hard drive recognition problem

Setting up a second computer using a recently purchased Asus A7V motherboard
and a 1.6 Gig Western Digital Hard drive. Formatted and works perfectly with
Win 98se. My problem is each time I switch on the computer, it cant find the
hard drive. My fix is to enter in the bios set up, click on where it says
"auto" beside pri master, it finds the hard drive, save setting and exit,
it boots perfectly. Any suggestions please.
