It appears your son selected the "New Installation" setup option
rather than the default "Upgrade" option. By doing so, he ignored
the warning not to attempt to install Windows XP in the same
partition Windows ME is installed in.
Using the Windows XP installation CD, you can only partition
your hard drive by performing a "clean install" of Windows XP.
This involves deleting the current partition, creating a new partition,
then formatting the new partition. I would suggest backing up your
important personal files and installing Windows XP correctly.

| When my son installed Windows XP home version our hard drive did not
| partition and Windows ME and older files are still on the hard drive. I was
| hoping to delete them because there is a virus in the old resrore files. How
| can I fix this problem? Is there also a way to save the current good files?
