Hello,

I'm running Vista Business Edition and while my machine reboots or shuts
down the WD HDD ( SATA RAID 0 ) makes a sound like that of Hard Disk Failure
or the "disk head park" Though I have no problems so far but this never
happened with Win XP. I've run all updates and the machine is working
perfectly fine.

Any Help much Appreciated

Thanks

Kartik

Hi.. I once replaced the HD on my laptop with a Hitachi back few yrs ago.
That was my first experience with these clicking noise. I was told it's some
sort of power saving feature. But the clicking noise made me crazy. There
used to be a small utility some where on the internet, where u can specify a
time that the file will write to a zero byte text file, thus prevents the HD
from parking its head. If u notice, your HD clicks at a certain interval
when the computer is idle (no user input). Also, you can try going to the
manufacturer's site and hope there's a firmware update or something. Sadly
for me, my hitachi broke after 2 months. All the best to u.

Regards.

Sry.. I may have misread what u wrote. I thought the clicking noise happens
frequently, but when i read ur msg again, i found it happens only when u
shut down. My bad.
