Yup. :) Happy Easter Zo.

Hi Susan. Time off form work, time to tidy up my apartment and - in
between - catching up with this and other groups.

To make this thread not totally OT, came across a few programs
(hex-editor, txt-editor, EXE-info-tool) that looks interesting, by
Mael Horz ( should be written with umlauts over the e and the o).

//begin quote

HxD
A fast hex editor written from scratch that allows easy editing of
huge files, RAM of other processes and provides raw disk-access.

* RAM-Editing with data-folding
* Disk-Editing (Hard disk, Zip-disk, CD, ...)(Win9x and WinNT)
* flexible and fast searching and replacing of strings (including
Unicode), hex-values, integers and floats
* view data in Ansi, DOS, EBCDIC charsets
* Checksum-Generator: Checksum, CRCs, Custom CRC, SHA-1, SHA-512,
MD5, ...
* exporting of data to source code (Pascal, C, Java) or as formatted
output (plain text, HTML, Richtext, TeX)
* basic data analysis (statistics)
* no file size limit
* highlighting of modified data
* unlimited Undo

Property Edit
"Includes some interesting features to analyze/inspect a program's
EXE-File or its running instance. This ranges from PE-file
information, window attributes, Delphi/C++ Builder class details on
running programs (also when compressed/encrypted) to a color picker
which translates into different color formats.

* Easy selection of a window with the mouse or by providing a
window handle
* Information about a window like Caption, ClassName, Font,
Window-style and ExtWindow-style
* Delphi/C++ Builder class information: Class hierarchy, Caption ,
Font, Owner, Parent, VCL-version used to compile
* Translation of a color value in different representations: WebColor,
TColor, corresponding system color, red, green, blue parts,
hexadecimal and decimal
* Pixel can be selected by mouse; a magnifier zooms parts of the
screen for easier selection
* PEInfo gives you many technical details about PE-files (EXE, DLL,
OCX, BPL, ...) and tries to identify the compiler and programming
language used.

ClearEdit
An intentionally simple notepad-clone.
ClearEdit is easily configurable so you can fully replace notepad (and
restore it if you wish), associate files to ClearEdit and integrate it
in the context-menu.

* Syntax-highlighting for 20 languages: (Pascal, C++,
* HTML, VB, JavaScript, Java, Intel Assembly, SML, Perl, PHP, Python,
TeX ...).
* URIs (URLs) detection, to open them Ctrl+Click.
* Procedure-list for quick navigation in ObjectPascal (Delphi) and
C/C++-source-code
* Unicode (supported under Windows 9X as well as Windows NT and
higher)
* DOS/OEM-Text is recognized so ASCII-Art is correctly displayed :-)
* Exporting of syntax highlighted text as HTML/RTF/TeX
* Processing of Dos, Mac, Unix text files
* keyboard macro functionality
* fast loading
* practically endless undo-function
* easy association with files, addable to Windows context menu

//end quote

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen
