Hangs on winotify.dll

I am using XP Sp1 and have just run updates to install some security
updates,
now my computer will not boot into Windows, it hangs on the winotify.dll
file at start-up, just after the "user click here window" then I get a send
error report that Explorer has to close.
I have tried booting into safe mode but get the same error.

Can anyone help me with this please
