Hangs during Setup

Doing repair install of XP Home but hang during device install with 35min to
go. checked logs and only one that appears to indicate anything is
setuplog.txt. Last entry indicates that it entering but not leaving install
of enumerated devices (?)

I've gone into BIOS and disabled all hardware (audio, LAN, USB etc) and
removed PCI devices but still get to same point in time and hangs.

ANy ideas what I can do

well,

it may sound like a hardware
failure.

because you attempted a repair
installation, then it sounds you
were having some trouble prior.

if you can maybe provide some
clue as to what prompted the
repair installation, it would help
see the bigger picture.

btw: in addition to disconnecting
the pci's, modem, etc, did you also disconnect
all the peripherials except for mouse,
kb and monitor?

re-initiate the repair install. when u have the screen "setup will complete
in 39 minutes" press Shift + F10, u will get command prompt, type in
devmgmt.msc. u will get device manager screen. do a hardware clean boot. that
is disable the network adapter, sound, usb, modem, devices, then continue the
repair installation.

I had Registry error Stop 0x51 but couldn't repair via CD - kept getting BSOD
when attempting use of recovery console or press F* for repair/clean install.
Perdormed manual registry repair which worked in that got windows back
(but.....) so decided to perform reait install at that point. In the end
decided that since PC remained untouched for years and not doubt full of
****, saved all required documents to another HDD and disc wiped clean.
Cleaned out PC, reseated all cards, re-installed XP, updated, loaded required
programs etc an up and running again. Took a bit of time but all OK now.
