hanging

I have a 1.5g p4 processer,nvidea gforce video card and
256 meg ram.
I have just tried to re-visit Pharoah and have installed
it ok. When i run it,it loads ok but hangs just as i start
playing of just before.
My son Plays Generals and says that this does not run
properly and has to turn off the Internet (cable modem).
Also when I play a simple game of cards sometimes it deals
very fast and other times very slow.
I am running xp pro.
Any advice

Try using msconfig to troubleshoot startup items and see if the machine will
work properly on a clean boot.
