Hanging issue

Dan Calic

Hi,
I'm running Win XP Pro, Office XP Pro, OE, & IE.

Everytime I open Outlook or OE I get an egg timer for
30 seconds.

Once either program opens, it downloads whatever is on the server and I can
send/receive mail normally.

I disabled my Norton AV, yet the hanging still occurs.

I haven't installed any new software recently.

I thought about uninstalling/reinstalling Office, yet when I tried that a
message came up saying-
"This patch package could not be opened. Verify the patch package exists and
you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify this is a
valid Windows Installer patch package."

I guess one question is would the "hanging" issue with OE and Outlook get
resolved by uninstalling/reinstalling Office?

If not any suggestions on resolving the hanging issue would be appreciated.

IIRC, NAV is the problem - you don't want to disable it, you need to
uninstall it. OE is nothing whatsoever to do with Office - and this issue
has nothing whatsoever to do with Windows either, so I don't know why you're
posting here.

I believe there is a patch available for NAV (depending on what version
you're running) but I won't allow any Norton application anywhere near my
computer so I can't tell you whether it fixes it or not.

I uninstalled Norton, including LiveUpdate and LiveReg.
The hanging issue still remains.

I'll be reinstalling it after posting this.

Have you compacted your message stores recently?

In Outlook, use Personal Folders properties> Advanced> Compact.
In OE, use Tools> Maintenance>Clean Up Now> Compact

I tried compacting in OE and Outlook. Didn't make a difference.
Any other thoughts?
