Handling multiple if tests

I have created the following formula to test two different cells an
select between several values based on that test.
=IF(J3>=40 & K3>=400,"LH",IF(J3>=40 & K3<400,"LL",IF(J3<40
K3>=400,"SH","SS")))

The answer I get is always LH. Could anyone please help. I have playe
with this for hours and just can't figure out what is wrong.

Think you got the AND() syntax incorrect ..

Try instead ..:

=IF(AND(J3>=40,K3>=400),"LH",IF(AND(J3>=40,K3<400),"LL",IF(AND(J3<40,K3>=400
),"SH","SS")))
 
One way

=IF((J3>=40)*(K3>=400),"LH",IF((J3>=40)*(K3<400),"LL",IF((J3<40)*(K3>=400),"SH","SS")))
