handling dates and times in Excel xy plots

I want to use a column formattted in date and time format to drive the x axis
of an xy plot, but the plotted data does not follow the selected time or date
format in the spreadsheet. How do I get the two to be the same.

I /think/ you should try an Excel group - this is for Windows XP as in the
title. Excel is NOT part of Windows, but part of Office. Look under Office.

There is a whole newsgroup devoted to Excel charts, which is where the Excel
charting gurus hang out:
microsoft.public.excel.charting
