halopat.tmp

what is halopat.tmp , halo combat evolved, and why do i
need it , pleaze. halopat.tmp is part of the update for
multiplayer play. halopat.tmp has no certificates to
verify its 'malicious code' free. option given to decline
download, which shuts down the game, or accept-which
produces this error message_'there was a file access
problem. you have to be logged into windows as a user
with admin rights'. after logging on to xp pro as
administrator still unable to get the update to take.
part of the update deals with buggy update problems _
just unable to download it. i do however get as far
as 'gathering exception data' , then halo combat evolved
has to shut down due to a problem.Sooo,if i may, what is
halopat.tmp , halo Pc, and why do i need it , pleaze

Great news, PlopPlop, and many thanks for posting the issue. I checked with
the Microsoft folks, and it seems that one of the Gamespy update versions
(there are a total of 24 available) loaded improperly which would return a
*.tmp file as being incomplete. The error has now been corrected.

You can safely delete the "questionable" file on your system, and
re-download the patch now.

Again, thanks for pointing it out.

Okay, lets try this. First, go into Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab
and make sure you can view these files. Under Hidden files and folders, put
the radial in the line "Show hidden files and folders." Next move to "Hide
extensions for known file types" and remove the check mark from the box. Do
the same for "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" okay the
warning.

Now, open Windows Explorer and go to Search, then enter halopat.* and see if
it exists on your system. If it does, delete it. You might also want to
clear your C:\WINDOWS\Temp directory, too. Restart your machine, then retry
the download.
