Guest account necessary?

Hi,
is it unconditionally necessary to activate guest account for file sharing
between two windows xp(e) systems? I think no. Are there any disadvantages?
When do I have to activate guest account?

akusoft,

All remote users authenticate as Guest when Simple File Sharing is turned on.
So if you use the *Simple* File Sharing you would need to turn on the Guest account.

Hello KM,

I'm using the simple file sharing with deactivated guest account and
it works, my current (administrative) user is called "User" without a
password and the automatic logon (component) is configured.
If I'm releasing a directory like "c:\Temp" with simple file sharing mode,
access via network (no domain) is possible - though the guest account isn't
active.

akusoft,

Your "User" account and Autologon feature has nothing to do with the guest account and simple file sharing.

You can create an authentication channel to access the share from another machine using the User account if you use a command like
"net use ... /USER:.. password" (please see net /? help).
