grouping text boxes and clip art

The "group" option is not available to me when I try to group text boxes and
clip art. I used to be able to group anything in 03... click on each while
holding Ctrl and then right click and select group. It appears the problem
may have something to do with the text boxes?? Can anyone help? Thanks.

You cannot group placeholders, even in PPT 2003. Placeholders are the boxes
that say "click to add <somthing>."

You must use an actual textbox -- on the Drawing toolbar in autoshapes (PPT
2003) or the Insert menu (PPT 2007) or Shapes gallery (PPT 2007) -- if you
want to be able to group it.

Thank you! I always forget that.

I wonder why placeholders should be different from textboxes. Why not just make them
a subset of textboxes, with all textbox functionality, and merely the added prompt "click to add <something>." It would save me a lot of time.
