grouping level for a report

T

thread

Hi all,
i need to build a modular report that is based breakdown level
what i didnt find a solution until now is how can i make the preview
dinamicly on one report when the breakdown level is not only chaing by
field but chaning by number of fields
for example
1.
name
age
city

2.
animal
hight
type
area

for now i only found a solution for the same breakdown level to have
diffrent fields but dont have a dinamic number of fields
if for example i have a report with a potential 7 breakdown level how
can i make it to be available only for 3 fields?

hi duane
i saw this web site in the past, there is a sentence downstairs that
sais that we need to check that we have the correct number of grouping
level so i dont think you can work with this dinamicly becaouse if you
have 4 fields you have to have 4 grouping level in the report you
cannot work with a global one like to have 6 or 7 grouping level and to
try to dinamicly use 3,4 fields inside this something that i didnt
solve for now

I think there is a communication issue. You should be able to set up 7
grouping levels in your report design. Some of these might have a Control
Source of "=1" so they have no significance. If you need to use the levels
they are available. If you don't need to use them, just ignore them.

thanks duane,
i will try to build it,i know that the highest breakdown level i have
its 7 and maybe as you say i will equal the rest of the record source
to 1 so it will have no senificant i believe that i will need to
initialize the grouping level and just group the fields that i need and
that way it will be more effective,i will try to see if this was my
prolem

hi duane,
one of the problems that i'm bumping is that the lines are not
shrinking when its no visible so the report is too long eventhough its
not needed
do you have any solution for me.
i made the "can grow" "can shrink" as yes

Try color the group sections to see if you can tell what is happening.

Hi Duane,
thank you very much for your help, the color issue helped me to see if
there is any problem in the footers to shrink and i see that its not,
another problem that i bump is that i need to change dynamicly the
characteristic of the grouping level:
group header,group footer,group on,group interval,keep together
this will be the final stage i believe becouse it will solve all issues

i found a solution to the shrinking but there is an issue of the
grouping
what should i take to consideration in order to group one field?

Hi Duane,
sorry for misunderstanding me.
the issue is as follow
i'm compering between my modular report to the other reports that are
already created,
there is a mismatch.
i will show you my problem and maybe you will tell me what should i
check
i have in the usual report this grouping
meat 1
pasta 1
cake 1
-------------
food 3

instead in my modular report i have
meat 1
food 1
pasta 1
food 1
cake 1
food 1
