Grouping by Date

Bardia

I have a simple report for checks in Access 2003. For grouping I used Date by
Year and sort the records by descending dates. When I review the report I see
2008 eateries first on top then 2009 data while I was expecting to see 2009
before 2008 data. Please advice.

Bardia,
Not much info to go on... but, the first thing to suggest...
Sorting in the query/table behind a report has no effect.
In reports, the sorting is done by the Grouping & Sorting dialog box in
report design.

Thanks Al,
I did use the Grouping & Sorting dialog box in report design. Dates related
to the data are sorted descending and that is fine. But there is a break in
report that separates 2009 and 2008 records. Since I used descending sort for
date I was expecting to see year 2009 on first part of report then 2008.
Please let me know if you need additional information.

Bardia,
Well, I can't figure out why that's happening.
I just want to be sure that your date field is not named Date... as that
is a reserved word.

I tested a report, where I Sorted and Grouped on a Date field named DOC.
(date of creation)
I entered =Year(DOC) in Sorting & Grouping (Descending).
In S&G I selected Header and Footer for DOC, and I placed a calculated
text control
=Year(Doc)
in both the Header and Footer of DOC.

That breaks on every year in descending order.

Someone else may pipe in on this in a day or so, but... if not, try a
new post.
Anything I can offer at this time would be a wild guess...
