When you say DNS is configured properly, does that mean the SRV records
successfully registered and that the DC and your clients are only pointing
to this DNS and no others are listed in their IP properties (such as your
ISP's DNS server)? If your ISP addresses are in there, they need to be
removed.
Problem apparently is your single label domain name (no TLD) and you
probably also have SP4 installed.

This may or may not help the clients. This is for the DC. W2k may still be
able to query for the records, but I believe the XP Pro clients will have
problems querying single label names.
