Group policy - disabled option items

Andy Meyer

Hi all,

I have an Exchange 2000 (SP3) with Office 2003 and some grouppolicies
and all works fine. But in Outlook all the options I have activated in
the grouppolicies are disabled in the GUI, so the user cannot change
this Items. If I set the policy back to "not configured" the user can
chance it again. Have I overlooked another policy to keep the items
enabled despite activated grouppolicy?

This behavior only appears in outlook.
The policy "Disable items in user interface" is empty.
The server is Win 2000 (SP4) with Terminalservices

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance
Andy

Are you sure you configured the policy correctly?

Setting an option like "Disable Instant Messaging in Outlook" to "Enabled"
means the functionality isn't available as you enabled the policy to disable
that functionality.

Hi Roady,

yes I think the policies are configured correctly. See this as an
example:

Tools|Options...
Preferences
Calender options
Calender item defaults
activated with 30 minutes

But if the user is logged on and he wants to edit this option, the
combobox is disabled.
If I set the policy to "not configured" or "disabled" the user is able
to change the combobox.

Thanks
Andy

Policies are forced. This means that a user is not able to change the value
set in the GPO.

Hi Roady,

can I switch off this behavior and why can I observe this only in the
Outlook 2003-GPO?

Thanks
Andy

You should see this behaviour with all policies you've set by means of GPO
(that's what makes it a policy and not a predefined option).

You can set predefined options by registry;
Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar
RemindDefault Reg_DWORD 30

Hi Roady,

the funny thing about is that only in Outlook 2003 the items are
disabled. In Word 2003, Excel 2003 and Office XP, 2002 this items are
enabled.

Nevertheless thank you very much
Andy

Hmm, I would check your policy settings again then as they should be locked
out (they sure are here).

And; You're welcome! :)
