Since upgrading to OUtlook 2003 for 2000 I have had trouble sending group
e-mails. One group, I was able to send by expanding the name. My largest
group gets "internal support function returned and error". I cannot expand
the name to show individual members either.

I had entered evrything in Outlook 2000, and never had a problem. When we
upgraded to 2003 the program did its own thing in bring in the data. The
first time I did a smaller group I had an error 500 that said something about
the SMTP and ISP not getting along, but I expanding the group name to display
all the indvidual names fixed that somehow. I cannot do that with this group.

I'm assuming you mean Distribution Lists. Outlook has no such thing as
"groups." DL's would never survive an in place upgrade. Did you back up your
data before the upgrade?
If you open the DL and click "Update Now" will it work? If not, you'll need
to recreate your DL's.
Whenever you do an in place upgrade (especially one that skips versions),
you should always create a new profile and reconnect it to your Outlook
data.

I had the same problem, until I recreated the DL, which was good, but why
should you have to do this.

I have numerous DL's, so that means I have to do the same for each one.

I would have thought that being an upgrade, it should make it easier for
you, however this is NOT the case, especially when a person pays good money
for a program.

Any comments?

Only the one I've made here countless times.
DL's are an afterthought. They are buggy, featureless, and were never
suitable for actual use.
Most users abandoned them long ago. So should you.
Microsoft should either fix them or abandon them. They most certainly should
stop pretending they are an actual feature.
