Gridlines in excel coming over in powerpoint

I am trying to copy and paste a spreadsheet into powerpoint from excel. I
have turned off the gridlines in my excel worksheet but when I copy it into
powerpoint and click the link to insert as an excel worksheet the gridlines
are showing up. How do I get them off. I know I have done this before but I
can't seem to get it to work now. TIA
