Grid pattern on graphics screens

Randy Culler

I use "Remote Desktops" (tsmmc.msc /s) to manage remote servers.
Lately, any screen I look at on the remote system that includes
graphics displays a grid pattern overlaid on the graphics. Its doing
the same thing with multiple remote systems, so it must be something
on my machine. I've tried rebooting, blowing away the terminal service
cache, running diags on the video card, re-seating the video card.
Nothing helps.

Anyone else seeing this? Any suggestions?

Have you tried to update the drivers on the client machine? Any chance your
running nVidia hardware. There have been issues with nVidia drivers recently.
Check their site for possible help.

Since I see it with so many different clients, I have not tried
updating anything on that end.

My machine uses a ATI Rage XL card. I'll check around for driver
updates on that.

I suppose I could start backing out windows updates since nothing else
has changed. The issue seems to be limited to the tsmmc. I can run
mstsc with no problem. I wonder if its the scaling / compression on
the video?

This is happening at my client as well, it has started ever since we
installed patch MS09-044. We use RDP 5.1 and have a case open on it,
the developer has not responded with a solution yet.

Thanks for the update. I hadn't identified which patch was
responsible. Please drop a note here if you find a resolution.

I have the same problem on my 2003 server using the Remote Desktops snap-in,
but not the RDP client itself. I updated to RDP 6.0 on the server, which
updated the client, but it did not update the MMC snap-in version. There does
not appear to be an update available for the MMC version.
