Greyed out menu items

I am unable to save, copy, paste, go to options, . . . Many Menu items are
greyed out, but I can still use them via keyboard shortcuts. Running Word in
Safe Mode works just fine.
 
What may have happened is that you were using reserved characters in your
document name like the "/" symbol.
