GRAYED OUT RECORD BUTTON?

G

Guest

A while back I lost my macro record button. When I added the "Stop
Recording" toolbar back the record button is grayed out. I have tried many
times to get it back but nothing. Its getting old going through the menu to
record a macro.

What to I do to get it back?

Thanks for any help.

David -

Thanks for the response. However I either did not do a good job of
explaining the problem (terminology?) or I don't understand your answer.

I like to have the "stop record" toolbar that includes the two buttons
"Relative Reference" and the "Record Macro Button" displayed.

When I try to add it by Tools, Customize, choose first tab (toolbars), stop
recording
get out of customize by close or X... It adds it, but the "Record Macro is
grayed out. This is what I have been doing before. It seems to simple. Am I
wording my question wrong or;

Do I not understand your answer or not able to properly implement it.

I read it is as;

Tools>Macro>Record Macro 'starting the macro recorder, then
Tools>Customize>Toolbars>"StopRecording"

? Where do I press the square stop button? From Menu Bar, it removes it
and from>Tools>Record Macro>Stop Recording it removes the toolbar.

Again, Thanks

Forget the last Reply.

I (believe) I use to be able to start "recording a macro" from a button. I
thought it was on the "stop record" toolbar. As I rember it, it would be a
blue round circle that, when clicked it would start recording a macro ( so
that I did not have to resort to Tools>Macro>Record Macro) and then it would
turn to a blue square that is the "Stop Record".

The simple question is...

Is there a way to start recording a macro from a button and if so how?

Sorry for the confusion.

When I add the toolbar now, the blue circle is grayed out.

Thanks Norm. Thats what I was looking for.

However... that grayed out record button is still an icon on the "stop
record" toolbar and it will not let me remove it through ""Add or Remove
Button". It is also grayed out. The problem is the grayed out record button
is taking up space on a toolbar.

Any quick ideas? If not, I have ideas of possible options.

Again, thanks for the help, and sorry for the confusion.

I have the "Macro" submenu like as in Tools in addition to the "Tools" menu
on my toolbar. Works fine for me as it save the dropdown from the tools menu
though you still have the drop down from the Macro menu -- as space on the toolbars is very limited.,

Get into customize and drag the button(s) that you do not want off of the
toolbars i.e. drag it to you spreadsheet..

Let the separate stop macro toolbar be a floater it contains a relative/absolute button
that you may need to use. If you keep the start macro button on your toolbar then
it will change shape to square (stop macro) if you are recording a macro.

If you have not exited Excel and you mess up the toolbars you can restore
them to what they were saved as by opening the *.xlb toolbar you will
find that it is timestamped to date and time you previously closed Excel.
Note the xlb extension is hidden so you want to make sure that you
do not have hidden extensions.
