Graphics on ppt only display in slideshow mode not in other modes

When working with graphics in PPT. the graphics can only be visible in slide
show mode only. Difficult to edit grapichs because they're not visible. Is
there a configuration that is not set correctly? I have 17" laptop. My
ppt's display properly on other computers.

My first move would be to update both the video card driver and DirectX. If
that doesn't solve it holler back.
