GRAPHICS INSERTION NOT VISIBLE ON DOCUMENT

Hi all - I have Word 2003 and when I try to insert a picture from file, it
shows only as a white space, no matter the file format it is (JPG, TIFF,
etc.). When right-clicking the menu has the 'Paste', 'Edit picture', and
'Objetc' choices grayed out. When going to the pidture toolbar, most
everything is grayed out and the ones that are operable have their subchoices
also disblaed. Any help will be appreciated.

Options
Print
make sure the "Drawing objects" box is checked.
