graphics in shared navigation bar

how can I insert a small graphic (like a spacer) in between the hyperlinks
in the top navigation bar?

No. Suppose your existing navigation buttons use a background picture
100 pixels wide. The idea is to replace these with pictures, say, 110
pixels wide, where the five extra pixels on each side are transparent.
This would result in no loss of overall centering.

I suggest this because I don't think there's a direct way to make
FrontPage add a spacer between links on a Navigation Bar component.

The whole mileau of Navigation View, Navigation Bars, Shared Borders,
Page Banners, and Themes is really for people who want to create
simple sites and not fuss too much about appearance. If you want
complete control, you have to adopt lower-level, more manual
techniques.
