Graphics in PP 2003 damaged in PP 2007

Many of the jpgs inserted into my PP 2003 ppt's (that display and export
properly in PP2003) appear to have many bars or lines across them when opened
in PP2007. They neither display nor export properly. These flaws appear
almost like embossed lines. Other users I know are having the same problem,
its happening on all my computers with Office 2007 (when I open them in 2003,
they still look fine), though I can't find any reference to this anywhere on
the net. Is anybody else having this problem? Does anybody know why it is
happening or how to fix it?

A great tip there that I wasn't aware of, but no, this isn't an issue of
compression on saving. None of these ppts have been saved in 2007. Just
viewed in 2007 (although saving does not change the graphics flaw). However I
did edit the registry to remove the compression default and it has no effect

Wondering if the printer is affecting this.. What do you have for your
default printer? (reaching here... it affects so many other things, it might
cause this too.)

Many thanks! I'll send to your email an original 2003 ppt file (cut down to
just a few slides that show this effect in 2007), plus a pdf generated in
2007 that preserves what I'm seeing in PPT2007.
