Graphics displaying over text for mac and netscape users

We have designed a web site that works perfect for IE 5.5
users and above, however mac IE users and Netscape users
experience missing graphics, and graphics that overlap or
hide text on pages, even though the graphic has been set
at an absolute position far outside of the text. Why is
this? How does one publish a site compatible with all
these browsers?

Asking the same question twice will not change the priro responses.

There is no pat answer to the question, most of it is trial and error and
experence.
