Graph seems muddy on slideshow

I have noticed that text in graph (standard graph created
in PowerPoint 2002) seems muddy (not clear). Especially in
slide show where the text get even larger.

My experience is that it happend on all computers and in
all PowerPoint 2002 version that I have tested. I have
tried Office Update (to PP 2002 SP2), but it did not solve
the problem.

Have anyone noticed the same? And do someone know a
solution for this?

*Thanks*

This is probably due to the anti-aliasing of text. This gets rid of the
jagged edge produced by standard text. As far as I am aware this cannot be
switched off in PP2002.

Additionally if you are running Windows XP you may find that using cleartype
can make the display of text fuzzy. I personally don't like cleartype, you
can switch it off by:

Right click on the desktop and select 'Properties'.
1.. Select the 'Appearance' tab and press the 'Effects.' button.
2.. Check the tick box next to the words 'Use the following method to
smooth edges of screen fonts' and select 'Standard' from the drop down box.
3.. Close the Effects dialog by clicking 'Okay' and click 'Apply' to
complete the process.
Note: If you install Windows XP yourself, by either upgrading an existing
Windows installation or performing a fresh install, ClearType will be turned
off by default. Computer manufactures that preinstall with Windows XP have
the choice of turning it on or off by default.

Thanks for answering!

The choice was already sat to "standard".

I tried to change it to clear type and back to standar
again without luck.

See if turning "autoscale" off in the font settings (after activating
the chart) helps.

Not sure if it will, but it won't hurt to try.

Hi Stuart,

I agree that this is the most likely reason why his text looks "muddy"
(font smoothing from the OS). Currently, PowerPoint provides no option for
turning this off.

If it is important to you (or anyone else reading this message) that
PowerPoint provide an option for controlling whether or not font smoothing
is used during slide show, please send your feedback to Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
